Astromechbuilder.com is a site dedicated to offering free utilities to people interested in building their own Astromech Droids. Look around a little to see what the site has to offer.

In the upper right menu, you'll find links to three gallery sites for hosting your own images and files. Gallery 1 will be closing soon to new members, but will still remain open to the users who already have an account and have files posted there. Please choose from one of the other galleries and register for a new account. When we reach 24 users for a gallery I will open a new subdirectory and offer an additional gallery. Albums with files or photos posted are promoted to next in line, above empty albums.

I place no limits or restrictions on uploads, provided that the content is Star Wars or prop-building related. I don't mind the occasional album with off topic pictures, but I would like to keep the galleries loaded with good droid and prop building reference material so that everyone can benefit.

Also in the upper right you'll find the Astromech building Wiki. This is still in it's early stages, and I am looking for people to contribute info that would be helpful to beginning builders. This wiki will likely be password protected and available only to registered users of this site. More to follow as the project grows. Finally you'll find a link to the AstromechFactory forums. This is an excellent forum that is growing rapidly.

The navigation to your left shows a listing of gallery members and direct links to their files for eacy access. Above that is a listing of helpful Yahoo! groups which focus on droid building. If you happen to have found this site before joining one of these, I would suggest you stop reading immediately and go sign up for one or more of the lists. The R2 Builder's Group is by far the largest and most active, but the others have good content as well. These are indispensible in your research into your build. Please come back after you've joined a group or two — we want you back!

If you haven't already, I'd urge you to register for a site account at the upper left. This registration is separate from the gallery accounts, and I apologize for that, but at this point it is necessary. If you allow cookies for your browser you will usually be logged in automatically when you access the site, so you'll likely never need to use your login. If you do, however, and can't remember it there is an automated password recovery script, or I would be very happy to help.

Membership has its privileges as they say, and membership here allows you to use the site more directly. Members have free blog space to host their own building weblogs if they like, as well as the ability to post content, take part in polls, get and receive private messages from other builders, and soon, to talk with other builders in a chatroom hosted on the site. Other features and upgrades will be forthcoming, and if there is a feature you might be interested in, please don't hesitate to ask and I'll see if I can make it happen.

So sit back, relax, put your feet up, surf and learn, contribute, read some building blogs, open a beer if you're so inclined, and enjoy!
